Most
theories of leadership are variations of the power theory where
leaders are considered movers and shakers who get things done. These
leaders use power in its different garbs resourcefully. A new variation
of this is Empowerment Theory. Which in essence is another way to
increase the leader's power base. These theories on leadership in
practice are counter productive and ineffective for two reasons:
The followers become increasingly
dependent on the leader to solve their problems and the expectations
about the leader's abilities to solve problems are too high, resulting
in the ultimate failure of the leader. In today's world of occupations
we find ourselves more managed and less led. We live in a world
dominated by controls, checks, and counter checks. This does not
satisfy our need for belonging, self- esteem, and autonomy.
Invisible Leadership moves away
from prevalent leadership theories and charts a new course for future
leaders who want to mobilize people for solving problems. Its central
message is to learn to harness our survival instincts which otherwise
leads people to act impulsively.
Invisible Leadership
is about creating a path for others based not on personal glory
