Certain clients like to see our trainings implemented as strategic
plans and we first offer consultation to negotiate and clarify their
needs while dealing with mixed emotions of ambivalence and hope.
Then we deal with clients concerns about costs, failure, risks and
loss of control. And finally we start work on data collection and
diagnosis to help the client in coming up with an action plan.
We emphasize two areas
during our consulting interventions --accountability and results
– and keep our clients focused on these two straight and narrow
lines.
As external consultants
we remain objective and alert to the dangers of colluding with certain
groups, or projecting our beliefs, or confronting client’s
vulnerabilities. We do however assert and protect the rights of
all stakeholders to participate meaningfully in the consulting process.
WE DO NOT ACT AS JUDGE, JURY, PROSECUTOR, OR WITNESS. We do offer
support, feedback, strategy, plans, and timelines.
If in our judgment a project
has less than 50/50 chance of success, we recommend postponement
till underlying forces impeding success, such as costs, authority
or power, leadership styles or inaccurate management information
get addressed.
